For this installation
I spent 2 and 1/2 months making over 3000, 4" tiles to grout into the
floor of the gallery space. I then used earth for the grout, mud as
paint for the walls, and 5 kerosene lamps to light the space. My feet
were plastered into the tiled floor as to make them part of the floor.
The piece consisted of sewing by hand sleeves onto a dress, being sewn
into the dress, breaking myself out of the floor, collecting and preserving
the broken shards, then patching the impression in the floor with dirt
and new tiles. This performance was 4 hours long.
